My Squeezebox Boom setting for" Players" has at the top, for status, "not connected"? I have several apps under the "my apps" setting but I only receive one AM station but can't seem to get anything else? Not sure what my problem(s) are? Any input on this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Problems replacing wifi card

I've been recently having some of the same wifi connectivity issues others have reported in the past with my Boom. I've got it disassembled to try and re-seat or replace the card, but I've hit (2) snags:

1) The plug connecting the speakers to the main logic board won't disconnect so that I can pull the board out to access it easier. I actually broke a corner of the connector trying to separate it, which has me a bit concerned. Not sure if anyone has any parts lying around? I think it's functional still but I do see one contact slightly exposed now, hence my concern.

2) The wifi card will not budge from the socket, it acts like it's stuck to the logic board beneath. There was some crusty adhesive on top of some of the chips securing the antenna leads, is it possible something similar has been done to secure the wifi board to the logic board? This is the first time I've ever had this apart since it was new back when these first came out.

Appreciate any feedback. This thing has been fantastic all these years, would hate to be reduced to just my (3) Radios...

Bass on Boom is Distorted

> Interesting... I wasn't aware that this was a known problem...
> Crap...does that mean it is an eventuality for my other four booms???

This will not necessarily afflict your other Booms. I have only one,
but I've had it since their first release, use it at significant volume
levels for many hours every day. Its woofers are going strong.

One thing about my Boom usage however: since almost the very beginning,
I've been using it with an attached subwoofer - which results in less
bass signal being sent to the on-board woofers. This reduced stress may
have made the difference.

Key repeat does not work with Boom remote

$

I use a Squeezbox Boom with LMS 7.9.0. I just noticed that on my boom remote (the small magnetic remote) the repeat function does not work. That measn that I have e.g. to press the Volume up or Volume dowen button several times to increase or decrease the volume. When I use a big remote from my other squeezeboxes the repeat function works even on my Boom.
I read in the wikie that the small and the normal remote handle the repeat key pressing differently but I do not know why it does no longer work. It used to work on my Boom a long time but I cannot say when it stopped workin.

Has anybody an idea what I have to do that the repeat function works also with the small remote?

Thanks for any help.

Boom Alarm Failing and no beep backup

I recently started using my Boom as a radio alarm again - the UI is so much better than the DAB system I tried instead - but my Radio 2 alarm is failing 50% of the time. I don't even get a beep, just a flashing alarm symbol is noticed when I finally wake up.

The logs shows this:

[16-03-08 07:25:18.1664] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Remote::__ANON__ (240) Error: Can't connect to remote server to retrieve playlist for, http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediasele...radio_two.pls: Connect timed out: Inappropriate ioctl for device.

I don't know if this has any bearing but since I use Tidal via IckStream I get lots of these in the logs:

[16-03-11 07:35:27.9680] Plugins::IckStreamPlugin::PlayerService::__ANON__ (1423) Error when sending playbackQueueChanged for Bedroom
[16-03-11 07:35:27.9701] Plugins::IckStreamPlugin::PlayerService::__ANON__ (1492) Error when sending playerStatusChanged for Bedroom

Excellent subwoofer for Boom

Hi, I haven't posted here in several years but have been enjoying a couple of SB Booms bought from eBay. One was in mint condition and the other was well-used but both sound very good.

I've been reading about the issue of the Boom woofer surrounds tearing or cracking with age and usage. So far that's not an issue but I may order a 3" refoam kit just to be proactive.

But the real reason for this post is to say how much enjoyment I'm getting from the Boom since adding a Pioneer SW-8MK2 subwoofer. This little 8", 100-watt sub is the perfect mate for the Boom. The list price is $159 and they are often on Amazon for as little as $111. They are also available locally at Best Buy. This is a phenomenal sub for the price! It bettered an older 8" Boston Acoustics sub costing $400. Pioneer speaker designer Andrew Jones has combined careful design with high quality parts and Chinese manufacturing to create an inexpensive series of speakers that blows away many competitors costing 3x or 4x the price. This sub is very musical and blends seamlessly with the SB Boom crossed over at 100hz. They sound like they were made for each other. It turns the Boom into a pretty serious sounding music system. Adding the sub will also spare the 3" woofers of the Boom from driving too hard to create low bass. This should allow the 3" woofers to last much longer and hopefully they will not need repair any time soon.

Here's the spec sheet for the SW-8MK2: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ep...0Sheet_new.pdf

I bought a Sonos

I have 2 booms and I think they are great. I love the sound quality. I was never able to get a satellite signal for Sirius/XM in my apartment. I even bought an outdoor antenna to put on my balcony. Receiving a signal was hit and miss. So I was really disappointed when Sirius/XM dropped their support for the boom. Looking around on the web I noticed that there aren't many good options for Internet radio. After reading rave reviews for the Sonos Play 5 I bought one. It sounds good enough but I was expecting better sound after spending $500 . I think the boom sounds better at less than half the price. But I knew Logitech wasn't going to support software for a product they no longer sell. I know about Chromecast Audio for $35 but they don't have Sirius/XM. The workarounds to get it onto the boom seemed too complicated for me. I don't know why Internet radios don't have a bigger presence in the marketplace. There aren't many good options since Logitech got out of the game.

DCHP server doesn't work with Boom

I have never updated the firmware.

My Boom used to have no problem getting an IP but now that my DHCP server and my DNS/Gateway are different beasts, it refuses.

I can see in the DHCP (dnsmasq) server log that the Boom is sent an offer. The Boom doesn't like it apparently.

Also this is the first time using dnsmasq.

Then when I set an IP manually, it cannot find my Squeezebox Server (Touch). How annoying! I now have to enter the (DHCP-) IP of my Touch manually, and then it does work.

Why on earth doesn't it just work by default? It has an issue with Gateway and DNS being different or something? Dnsmasq in my case will return a DNS of 192.168.1.3, a gateway of 192.168.1.1, and the server itself is also at 192.168.1.3. And it doesn't work. Then when manually configured, it doesn't find the Touch!!

There are not any restrictions on the network. My phone can find everything easily and just works.

Encryption Failure

Hi Folks

I'd appreciate a bit of guidance on my latest glitch.

I have a Squeezebox Boom and a couple of Logitech Radios. I've had them for years and the are all using the latest LMS software - they have all worked fine. For some reason yesterday, the Boom refused to connect to my wireless network. All I got was a message saying 'Encryption Failure'. The two radios are connecting OK.

If I try and connect the Boom using a wired ethernet connection, it works fine.

I have tried rebooting the router, hard resetting the Boom (twice!) but it still refuses to connect.

I'm pretty good with tech and I think I've tried everything I know to try and solve the problem. Before I pull out my last grey hair :), is there anything I've missed? Is there anything else I can look at that might give me a clue as to what's going on?

Big thanks!

Steve

Distorted Bass, Spilt Speaker, Exact Replacement Available

If you have distorted bass and you've read through this forum, by now you realize that the 3" foam suspension rings on the woofers are sub par. They dry out and split even if you don't crank up the volume, sometimes in a rather short period of time. The Boom is a discontinued item, there are no direct parts available so there are lots of different kinds of repairs that can be done to add a little more life to the woofer. The first and foremost procedure is if you can even get the Boom apart. For that, search this form with this heading 'Squeezebox Boom Disassembly In 8 Easy Steps and 1 Hard Step'. The search engine brings you to a thread called 'Is Anyone Fixing Booms'. Scroll through to listing #97 and there it will be. How to tear one down including pictures....really good. Be sure you have a thin # 10 Torx blade screwdriver, lots of patience, and a light touch.

If you can tear a Boom down, then you can repair the speaker. Gluing and siliconing the foam ring is a super temporary repair because the foam ring is dried out and will just continue to crack and chip. Don't waste your time. If you have gotten this far, you might as well do the job right. Simply Speakers offers a speaker rebuilding kit and a terrific instructional video on replacing a bad speaker mounting ring. The kit for 2 speakers was about $25. But I found the rings on my speakers were so well glued in, I could not cut the bad speaker parts out without destroying the speaker. Maybe you are luckier.

There are several replacement speakers available that will more or less fit into a Boom. The one I liked is a drop-in ready 3" replacement speaker that has better specs than the Boom's with higher max peak volume and better RMS, no alterations are required. It's 3" Professional Full Range Woofer by FaitalPRO 3FE25. The speaker costs about $23. For the effort to open up a Boom and the low cost of the speaker, it's a good thing to replace both at the same time. The woofer is available through Parts Express, Sound Solutions out of Ohio, Parts Express part number is 294-1103 and they list a BIN # of B-05-01-202.

Once I figured out the tear down of Boom (thanks to the forum instructions), the actual speaker replacement was fast..slap both in, carefully reverse the teardown procedure, plug the Boom in, set up, enjoy. I've had it fixed for a week and I'm satisfied.

YSTFSW050

One of my Booms is a kitchen player and it's time to get some bass !

Don't want anything too overpowering (Boom has modest output) and I was looking at the Yamaha YSTFSW050. It seems well regarded and good value. Any thoughts on this model ? Can it give a bit of jungle subbass ? :)

Would it be reasonable to place the Boom directly on top of this or is that a bad idea sonically ?

Thanks

No longer have a "Time" option for screensaver when player is off

Hi all.

Don't know exactly when this started happening, but recently I have noticed that when my Boom is turned off, the time is no longer displayed. This is when it is connected to SBS. When connected to MySB, the time is shown as expected. Diving in to the display settings in SBS, I no longer have the "Time" option under Screensaver when off:

SBB Display clarification

For some reason my SBB has stopped dimming at night when I turn the bedroom light out. I have attempted to reset this within the display settings using both the Settings on the Boom as well as via the display settings on the computer. While I can adjust the levels, I can't work out whether I should simply be setting everything on "Automatic", and am not even sure what some of the settings mean, especially "Sensitivity", and whether 1 is maximum sensitivity or 20. What is it "sensitive" to?
Grateful for any advice which will explain this to me.
An awful admission after owning 2 SBBs for 6 years, I know. Pity the instruction manual doesn't make any of this clear though.

Is the Boom's power supply interchangeable with the Duet's

$

I just got a second hand Boom today, but it came with a non-OEM power supply which has quite a loose connection to the Boom and thus tends to fall out. A bit of a pain as the vendor (off this forum nothing less) mentioned nothing about a non-OEM power supply

Since I have a Duet to spare, I'm wondering if I could use the power supply for the Duet receiver for the Boom. The actual socket fits, but I'm wondering if it will damage the power supply or the Boom, or simply be inadquate?

In other words are some/all of the Squeezebox powersupplies interchangeable?

Another Display query

I have 2 SBB's. When I select a station on SBB No 2 (say BBC R2) after loading, the program title (Eg: Good Morning Sunday) scrolls across the screen. But on my SBB No 1, I only get the (non scrolling)station ident (Eg: BBC Radio 2). I have matched the Display Settings to ensure they are both the same, but cannot get SBB 1 to identify the actual program, which I would like. Anyone got a solution?

Boom crashes on OGG audio

$

My Squeezebox Boom reproducibly crashes on certain OGG audio files, while my Squeezebox Radio plays them just fine. The OGG files I encoded myself. And it's not all OGG files, just some. I have no clue what causes the crash. The display gets distorted and starts to blink. I think it sometimes shows an error message. Something like "bad vorbis header".
Any recommendations how to debug or fix this?
